“Fourth Regiment NJ Volunteers”

The Fourth Regiment New Jersey Volunteers (Col. Simpson.) which left Trenton on Tuesday, arrived in Washington on Wednesday, at 10 o’clock. The men were all well and in good spirits. They were immediately sent over to the sacred soil, about five miles beyond Alexandria, in the vicinity of the other New Jersey Regiments, being the most advanced post of our army. We understand that this Regiment was the first to arrive in Washington in response to the latest call of the President.

Sergant Hillyer, of Capt, S.R. Gillkysonís company, at Hightstown, left here this morning with three recruits for the above company. Their names are Joseph Moore, George Walton and Shinn Jemeson (Jameson). We learn that Capt. Gale, of Mount Holly, is at Mannahawkin recruiting.

There is already two companies, numbering sixty or seventy each, the Stafford Greys and the Ocean Guards, in that locality, and we have no doubt but that they are ready to take up arms in defense of the Union. We shall be proud to learn of their braverd on the field of battle.
